Chanticleer pulled a feather from his breast... the rat twisted himself rubberwise and buried his smut in Chauntecleer's stomach.

Chapter 24: The Second Battle - Wynn's Keeper and his Minion in the Sky

Pertelote (the hen) stared, transfixed. Chauntecleer (the rooster) lay underneath - cockatrice, his tail, on top of him. Gaff had pierced cockatrice at the throat... cockatrice was not dead; but he was dying.
